Who is the owner?

Who lives there now?
There are approximately 200 residents living full time on Mayaguana with approximately an additional 1,000 people with roots to the island living and working in the capital city, Nassau. The vast majority of which have indicated their desire to return to Mayaguana, if there were employment opportunities.
Where is Mayaguana located?
Mayaguana is located in the Southeastern Bahamas approximately 30 miles away from Providenciales, TCI. The Mayaguana Passage – the major shipping lane named after the island – accounts for nearly 80% of the Panama Canal Container shipping traffic. Mayaguana is also on the halfway point between Miami/Ft. Lauderdale and San Juan – the largest cruise market in the World. Because of Mayaguana’s Startegic Location many of the cruise lines have indicated interest in Mayaguana as a future cruise destination.
What are the current entitlements and what will need to be done before it is shovel ready?
Mayaguana Island Developers has negotiated with the Government of the Bahamas a robust Concession Agreement that is buttressed by the Mayaguana Legislation (The Mayaguana Act). These provide unparalleled legal security and Government support, ensuring long-term project stability.
The Concession Agreement grants anyone building in the Development Area with permissions to excavate, dredge, construct wharfs/ docks as well as build hotels, subdivision developments, home sites, marinas. Any additional specific design and build permits will be fast tracked, via a dedicated liaison to the Prime Ministers office.

What are the current power sources on the island?
Power is supplied by Bahamas Power and Light – the government-owned national utility of the Bahamas. National business and residential tariffs/rates are charged like anywhere else in the Bahamas. Additionally, the Concession Agreement has the provision that whoever builds in the Development Area also has the option to produce their own power and sells any surplus at commercially reasonable rates to recoup investment. What utilities are on the island that might be used for the development?
Power and Water are supplied by Bahamas Power and Light and the Water and Sewerage Corporation – the two national government owned utilities of the Bahamas. The island is also endowed with a large fresh water lens that can be tapped for well water.
Would the ownership consider some sort of JV?
Yes, the developers are looking for partners and/or investors who can bring value to the island via independent development, investment or some combination thereof. Pleace check also: Development Area
How much of it does the owner want to sell?
Mayaguana Island Developers are looking for partners and/or investors who can bring value and development to Mayaguana. While acreage being sold with depend on the specific development, a typical sized lot would be around 10-12 acres. Get more Information on Development Area
What dredging and/or other large construction projects have been completed on the island?
In order to land the equipment necessary to build the MYG Airport, 25+ miles of roads and other critical Enabling Infrastructure (Click here), the approximately 200ft Mayaguana Northwest dock dredged and built. The Concession Agreement also contemplates a much larger Commercial Port in south side of the Island in Russells Bay. Read more in: Enabling Infrastructure
When can you access the "option" parcels
- Additional Acreage can be earned and added to the Development Zone by completing specific Development tasks that are outlined in the Concession Agreement. For more information, please see the Development Area Page.
What is the workforce potential on the island?
The current workforce consists of approximately 200 residents and approximately 1,000 people with roots to the island that are living and working in Nassau but have indicated their desire to return to Mayaguana, if there were employment opportunities there. In addition, Paragraphs 14 and 15 of the Concession Agreement address the need to grant work permits for any unavailable skilled labor to spur development.
Where would skilled labor come from?
Skilled labor would come from Mayaguana, Nassau and outside of the Bahamas. For example, Mayaguana Island Developers used local labor to build the Hospitality Center and a Chinese work camp for larger parts of the MYG Airport.
What is the owner's "vision?"
Because of the island’s natural beauty and strategic location, Mayaguana Island Developers sees development in a similar fashion to what happened less than 50 miles away on Providenciales. For more information, please click here for our vision.
Are there hospitals on the island?
There is a clinic on Mayaguana with a full-time nurses and rotational doctors. More serious medical procedures can be handled at the Canadian Hospital on the neighboring island or via of telemedicine connection with Mass General Hospital. Please see Health & Wellness for more information.
