POWER & WATER on Mayaguana Island
The Government of The Bahamas, in their desire of promoting development on Mayaguana, has installed both power and water lines in Mayaguana that are supported locally by Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) and the Water and Sewer Corporation (WSC) of the Bahamas.

In addition to Public Utilities in Mayaguana, MID’s Concession agreement has the rare and valuable provision to develop and manage all utilities connected to its developments, including the option to charge “commercially reasonable” rates to recover capital investment/ operating costs.
According to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the cost of solar panels (PV) decreased by an average of 15% annually between 2010 and 2020, culminating in an 89% total reduction over the decade.
This has been made possible by substantial technological innovations in producing cheaper and more efficient bifacial solar modules and single-axis trackers. In addition, the rapid expansion of solar manufacturing, particularly in countries like China, has created large economies of scale resulting in a significant decrease in production costs.
Solar-Powered Resorts: Big, Bold, and Game-Changing
Across the globe, large-scale luxury resorts - from the Maldives to Las Vegas - are proving that solar energy isn’t just viable, it’s powerful!
- Kudadoo Maldives runs 100% off solar, using a sleek 320-kWp rooftop array that blends sustainability with stunning architecture.
- Finolhu Villas, also in the Maldives, generates 1 megawatt/day, fully powering its five-star amenities on sunshine alone.
- MGM Resorts in Las Vegas built a 100-megawatt solar farm, one of the largest in hospitality, powering 13 major hotels on the Strip.
- Frangipani Beach Resort in Anguilla uses solar to cover 70% of its energy needs, cutting costs and emissions.

Why Solar Power Is Critical
- 🌍 Reduces Carbon Footprint – Resorts often operate in pristine environments; solar helps preserve what draws visitors in the first place.
- 💰 Saves Money Long-Term – After setup, solar drastically lowers energy costs—critical for remote islands with expensive imported fuel.
- 🛡️ Boosts Energy Resilience – In areas prone to storms or fuel disruptions, solar with battery backup provides vital energy security.
- 🌿 Attracts Eco-Conscious Travelers – Sustainability is now a selling point. Guests want to stay where luxury meets environmental responsibility.

MID has teamed up with Renu TCI - a local leader in Solar Solutions - to deliver power solutions on Mayaguana for as little as $0.12 per kilowatt hour.

DRINKABLE FRESH WATER
Mayaguana is endowed with a huge natural Freshwater Lens
This game-changing natural asset provides a sustainable, self-replenishing source of clean, drinkable water. Having an under underground reservoir reduces the need for costly desalination or imported water, making development more cost-effective, resilient, and eco-friendly - a powerful edge for any investor or resort operator.
